Bees are known for producing honey, but what many people don't know is the importance they have for the balance of the ecosystem and the sustainability of the planet.
The reason for the extreme importance of bees lies in a single word: pollination. It is the bees that pollinate a large percentage of the agricultural and forestry crops that will generate our oxygen and our food.
According to the World Bee Day project, this is the same as saying that one out of every three spoonfuls of food depends on pollination.
Although there is self-pollination in citrus fruits, bees make an important contribution to the quantity and quality of their fruits. Fruits that are born from plants pollinated by bees, have a nutritional and genetic quality superior to those that were not pollinated.
Thus, bees affect our life directly, without us being unaware of it.
How can we help bees?
1. Whenever you see a bee, even if you feel scared, don't kill it.
2. Buy honey and other bee products from local and sustainable producers;
3. At Citrina we avoid the use of pesticides, herbicides and other harmful products as much as possible, we use biological control – insects that eat pests;
4. Protect bee colonies and, if possible, adopt one;
